Five and still alive!!

Well folks, I did it and I have to say it wasn't all that bad! I made it to 5 miles!! This is a major life event for me because up to this point I wouldn't have dreamed of jogging for 5 miles straight! (who does?) I give some credit to my success to the wonderful morning it was weather-wise. I was around 65 degrees and even a little chilly, which was odd for the middle of summer but very much appreciated!! Also we were on level ground once again, the four miler was up 2 hills and I think that really took it out of me because they were close to the beginning. I'm still learning how to adjust pace to accomplish those hills! I felt great most of the run, however towards the last mile my hip flexor muscles/joints were really sore. I need to find out what to do about that, because they were REALLY sore the last quarter mile, which I might add is up a pretty good incline and is just a boatload of fun, NOT! I really didn't think I was going to jog the entire time up the hill but I kept focused on a stop sign at the end of the road and kept telling myself I was almost there and before you know it I was!!! So, now the mileage stays around 2 miles the next few weeks, which will be a nice break....but just around the corner lies 6!

  1. I foam roll my hips and IT Bands as well as use the hip weight machine to keep mine from exploding. If you are still having problems, you can always schedule an appointment with Dr. Bright. He has rush scheduling for MITers.
